If the time isn't that bad to build it you should certainly consider selling some of these. Also in a real car the shifter is closer in depth but further down. 
I tried different positions and liked this one most. The colors of black and gold were chosen to bring out the competitive spirit of the driver. 
Fix it in place with some wood glue and three 1 1/4" (3.18cm) screws; countersink the screw heads if you don't want them sticking up. Feel the road through the steering wheel. Take the 3" board and draw a line diagonally roughly through the middle of board. This setup is compact, clean, and still allows the seat to fully fold away even with the wheel deck tucked.

Be aware you will need to find your own mounting bolts and will likely need some additional spacers, but as a bonus, this is the cheaper option and you will still spend about half as much for this solution. Personally I rarely use clutch and shifter on GTS (yet always do in the required cars in PC2 and AC) simply because the clutch is utterly unrealistic in GTS. Thanks for this. Building the basic mount only takes 15 mins with some hand tools, just butt two boards together with some screws and wood glue and drill a few holes like I described in my comment above. 
The mount uses the curved section of the tube to keep its orientation, so it wont slip down over time. You need to get risers with a 1" (25mm) inner diameter to fit around the lower frame of the Playseat. I've searched for days to find something that is not 3d printed.

This is my mount for a Logitech driving force shifter on a Playseat Challenge. A good alternative to the not so good "official" solution: Thanks! Perfect for my arm length since I am a taller guy. I wanted to hard-mount the shifter for added stability so I picked up some M6 bolts that fit into the hard points on the Logitech shifter and some washers, again to protect the wood as you tighten. My PlaySeat shifter mounter is ready. The futuristic thin, floating dash sports a 60Hz refresh rate, and is compatible with most mainstream sim racing titles. Rounding off the corners and easing the edges of the board is maybe another 10 mins of work. Even enough room for a handbrake ! It may not display this or other websites correctly. Use 12mm flat washers between the bolt head and the wood to prevent the wood from crushing when you tighten the bolts to eliminate any play. Simply measure the mounting holes from the bottom of the shifter and transfer that line onto your 6" board and drill out the holes for the M6 bolts with a 1/4" (7mm) bit.
I followed it to the T and it worked on the first attempt. When the fit is good, join the boards to make a right angle such that the 6" board sits on top of the 3" board.

The first rendition I did was just like yours and I found it was in a bit of an awkward position. NOTE: I've seen elsewhere that 7/8" (22mm) motorcycle handlebar mirror mounts will work, but I purchased those and had to return them because they were not large enough, though I suspect you can purchase the 1" version of the mirror mounts. I have the steering wheel closer than normal. Drill out 1/2" (13mm) holes, the first 3/4" up from the bottom and centered along the diagonal line, the second 1 1/2" away from that along the diagonal. Price and other details may vary based on product size and color. Im really happy this will work out for you and congrats on the Playseat! 
(6'5"). Just built mine based off your build. Feel the road through the steering wheel. I also threw in an extra corner block where they meet to maintain rigidity. There are two additional screw holes between the shifter and the mounting boss. If you have a drill, handsaw, a 1 inch thick board ($5 at home center), and 30 mins you could be up and running, then put the finishing touches on later if youre so inclined. These risers come with M12 bolts and the riser distance extends the mount perfectly beyond the frame so the Playseat will still fold perfectly without the need for any additional spacers or extension bars. That's a pretty dope, simple and clean setup.

Now that I find out that you can gain speed with a H pattern shifter I guess I will need to modify my racing seat, Im glad I left room on the right side. Im also UK based, thanks in advance! I found some pics on my phone of my old setup and my DIY solutions to mounting my handbrake and gear selector so figured id post them on here in case it's of use to anyone else. You should now have an L-shaped wooden bracket. 
Just ordered the risers. I know I spent a week looking on forums and Reddit for a good mount solution and didnt really find what I was looking for. Buy now from MOZA Racing ($499,00) Id love to see a photo of your solution if you wouldnt mind sharing. I don't know where the thread has gone where someone asked this before but I put my shifter in my playseat challenge with a right angle bracket and a u-bolt clamp, with some rubber sheet. After viewing product detail pages, look here to find an easy way to navigate back to pages you are interested in. Lastly, if you want to polish up the look a little bit (and save your knees from sharp corners), you can round off the outside corner of the 6" board (with a handsaw, chisel, sandpaper, jigsaw, whatever you have), fill the countersunk screw head holds with wood filler and spray paint it black like I did, but these are purely cosmetic upgrades. Next, I grabbed two pieces of scrap from my wood pile, but you can easily find a small 1x4 board at the home center you will need ~10" (25.5cm) in length. For racers who prefer geniune leather, the fine graine leather will never let you down.

This is certainly the best mount I've seen. I was very impressed with how substantial they felt and they are very solid on the frame with no movement at all.
