July in Dubai is very hot & very humid. I bought a bottle recently. Beautiful citrus opening followed by somewhat musty spicy herbal notes. One of my first fragrance purchases and how lucky I was, still in my top 5, maybe top 3, after 150 fragrance bottles and hundreds more in samples over 3 years. It is doubtless an older -vibe cologne; the greater part of the delivery is dusty and mossy. A timeless classic! If this fragrance was longer lasting then I'd definitely wear it out on a date or something. Poor longevity (3-6 hours), ok sillage, but does it really matter with something this brilliant? Eau Sauvage was launched in 1966. At moment, Im giving this an okay after my first wear. It's what a GROWN MAN fragrance should smell like! as it has been covered ad nauseam by other reviewers. I think its at worst a dislike, but I dont see how someone could strongly hate it unless it reminds them of something. I dont really see how this can be controversial as some people are saying. Dont get me wrong. The opening citron is the best, utterly fantastic. I hope I'll be wearing for a couple of decades yet. While it has been around the 60s, it has a truly timeless aura around it. Bergamot, jasmine and oakmoss with a hint of musk. The longevity of it as a skin scent on me starting around the 6 hour mark is quite remarkable (ambient temperature ~60F). A timeless classic never dies! First time I've tried this in it's current form. For many, these are considered summer fragrances, but it's weird how I tend to grab for this for the colder weather. I'm a woman and I've worn this. If anything, the new one holds its citrus notes longer, seems more complex and projects a bit stronger. The current bottles of Dior Eau Frache offer more oomph. Composed by the inimitable Edmond Roudnitska, it is one of the best masculines of all time. I'd say for folks calling it old school, it really doesn't smell like anything I've smelled before. I actually find it too beautiful for daily wear (seems a waste) but I'm terribly grateful for it. Perfume lovers: 793,528 It carries a masculine skin vibe.. if that makes sense (like Kouros and Lapidus pour homme like if you could smell testosterone). A brief whiff of lemon, a faint trace of something earthy, already only barely detectable a mere few moments after spraying. Bright sparkling opening, nice jasmine and herbal heart, and vetivery drydown. My bottle is from around 2015 (I also have a vintage mini from the brown box era). Very fresh and clean this will make you smell unique nowadays. Eau Sauvage has that vibe. Oakmoss creates that unmistakable old school, barbershop vibe. I kid of course, but it's still amazing that after so many years I can't find anything that truly beats this for me. I adored her (still do!). Like someone said below classy, classy, classy is all this is. The creator made the perfume legendary and characteristic for its fresh, citrusy notes, composed with spicy lavender on a masculine, woody base. "Ephemeral" would be a nice way of putting it, but "nonexistent" is how I actually feel about it. Despite that, I will be wearing it, but mostly for sport activities, hiking etc. great scent but no sillage no longevity waste of money sorry :(. Love it, so fresh and elegant. I have had this for over a year now and I do like it. Would not recommend it as a blind buy due to its complex composition. Maybe an 18-hole game of golf, then afterwards a shower and change in the locker room, before heading to the clubhouse bar for a drink on the rocks. Yes, it does smell dated depending on your age. This eau-de-cologne opening is, as some have said, fairly brief, maybe 60-90 minutes, but it's not supposed to last because it's doing what eau de cologne does, offering a stimulating kiss on the cheek -- to do this for hours would be both artificial and wearing. But do I need a bottle - you bet - its really a sublime (albeit soft, after a bright opening) citrus. This edition was refreshed with a new advertising campaign featuring world famous Alain Delon in 2009. Fine lemon with a touch of vetiver, a tad powdery. When I initially sprayed this on I got a very light citrus and thought, "Is that it?" The vetiver is very smooth. I've been collecting fragrances for about a decade. I have a 2021 bottle. Lovely classic. Perhaps the musk? To add my voice to the chorus, performance is not great. Eau Sauvage is for mature use only ; a real manly cologne, not an accessory. I dont know how this is possible. One of the greatest colognes of all time. Loved it as young man in the 90's and haven't tried it for years. Very classy, and I'm surprised at how it really doesn't smell dated at all despite being released almost 60 years ago! The vintage formula was a masterpiece. Eau Sauvage, eau de toilette of great elegance and natural simplicity, comes out at a time when everyone begins to talk about ecology, natural purity and "wild" nature. This is not dated, it just seems more suited for the older man. Feels very natural and classic. In high hmidity, these notes linger for quite a while. Base notes bring us oak moss, vetiver, musk and amber.The flacon was designed by Pierre Dinand. And I have cologne in quotes because this EDT performs well for me. Eau Sauvage allows me to briefly step off that ever-revolving carousel and truly enjoy something that can stand alone in confidence. Glorious bright, zingy, sparkling citrus and hedione with some dry florals and herbs on a smoky vetiver and oakmoss base. My skin literally drinks this perfume. I don't mean it becomes a skin scent, I mean it vanishes. It smells very classic. I remember opening her bottle often to smell her perfume, I loved it so much, I didn't even realize this was supposed to be a man's scent! How they can still call this weird citrusy Fragrance eau sauvage? This is one of the best smelling juices ever, but it disappears in less than an hour. As for the sillage, it is moderate while longevity is also moderate. About 20 minutes later it turned into a skin scent on me. But the way it is now, it is useless. For those who think this is dated etc. A masterpiece. Famously, Eau Sauvage has been loved by women as well as men since its release. A lurking vetiver note rounds out the experience with its green grassy twang. It is just a timeless classic, and I respect it. Two sprays on each shoulder. In my opinion is more like an edc than edt. Classic and masculine. A warm, sunny, breezy day. Will have to look at possibly finding a decent vintage one. A timeless classic, you can't go wrong with, especially if it mingles finely and warm up with your chemistry instead of sitting coldly on top. I love old adverts with Alain Delon (my first celebrity crush) and it smells like Diorella (one of my favorites) who had to roughen up a bit to join all boys club. Steve Mc-effin-Queen would slap on some of this on his way home to bump uglies with Ali McGraw after a hard day of doing his own stunts, racing motorcycles, and just all round being the coolest dude ever. Very clean and fresh but with dark aromatics floating around it. It is radiantly fresh, yet comfortingly aromatic, and somehow restorative. The smart and talented ones knew they couldn't possibly surpass this masterpiece and had to innovate new genres and rehash old ideas in new packages to keep the industry moving. Thats right. It's become my summer fragrance and it's exactly that old school barber shop scent that really makes it pop. can be used in all situations by any man but you will get an "old man smell" comment ever so often. As the mid notes emerge, there are fresh floral notes that float in and around the fading hesperdic notes and the more resilient herbs and spices from the opening are joined by some patchouli. I can use it all around, all year. You will get about 1.5 solid hours of mild projection with 4 sprays. Old school. Enough with the doctoral dissertations about the quality of the jasmine in the new formulation and all that other crap. It's clean and wearable and goes from somewhat fresh to mature within 15 minutes of the spritz (this is the dry down? This is the smell I think of when I think of cologne. She was (still is!) If I ever run out of my bottle I will definitely repurchase it. Scent is gone in a few minutes it's just awful. Man this stuff smells so nice after a few hours and even the next day, my jumper smells great. Projection is low but detectable. Composed of flowers, previously absent from male waters, it innovates by introducing hedione, a substance synonymous with zesty freshness. My personal favourite scent of all time. Although the profile is quite different to Guerlain Vetiver, it belongs to the same time and age, and gives off a similar romantic and nostalgic, gentlemanly vibe. Effortlessly chic and stylish. The drydown of vetiver and spice is a bit masculine, but clean, not harsh, with some florals left over from the base, so women might enjoy wearing Eau Sauvage. I get whiffs of #rochasfemme and #diorella within the heart: Carnation, Rose, Jasmine contrasted with spices (Cardamom and Cumin). It completely strayed from the beautiful opening that attracted me to it in the first place but rather a dirty vetiver vibe. Dior Eau Sauvage I want to bathe in it, I want to drink it, it's that good but that performance is just so poor. Coffee in hand, sitting on the back porch reading Jim Harrison. It actually smells quite good. I guess the outcry over it current version must be in direct proportion to the beauty of the original.). One of the best, refined citrus men's fragrances ever made. Basil, Rosemary, Bergamot, Lemon are notes that intertwine and form a "Ortolana" and refined dance. The class is always the class. However I will say that this will attract more older men than younger guys out there. I love this scent. The drydown is an aggressively penetrating fug of swamp muck and filthy underwear. The opening is so bright and uplifting making this fragrance worth every penny. What a pity. But while I was there, I picked up a fresh bottle of THIS. : This smells of a classic and sophisticated manly fragrance - think Aqua Di Parma Colonia made more aromatic with Chanel Pour Monsieur with a 60s Dior twist. Ive had it for a year but I just started using it properly this summer. I do. Possibly the best mens designer fragrance ever created. I wish it lasted longer since the scent is so good but I'd say preformance is average. No longevity, no projection. Its an excellent chypre but sadly its performance is lacking - and can be problem to some. Orphe is a favourite of mine (and not just because it was my parents' first date!) Almost got a Polo Green vibe from it, and unfortunately that does not blend well with my skin. It's an acquired taste like with any scent. Today at Sephora I applied Eau Sauvage Parfum on one hand and Eau Sauvage EDT (regular) on another. Love it. I get an older, mature vibe. Its a mere skin scent within 30 minutes, not a bad thing considering this is the whole concept of this genre. A lovely classic fragrance. Dior's first male perfume, Eau Sauvage is a timeless classic that, for more than twenty years, remains an absolute modernity. I really like this. Oakmoss vetiver notes are prominent to my nose with that classic zesty lemon in the opening. Vile. Old fashioned in a good way, making you wonder if maybe you do want to smell like your grandfather, after all. The one I've got opens with a sherbet lemon smell but then dries down to something special and old school. It has been hibernating steadily for decades now. While original EDT remains sharp and citrusy in its dry down. I think I never pulled the trigger on buying a full bottle because of the price, and the fact that it's a two spray only cologne, as with Armani Pour Homme. Clear and fresh scent of lemon and bitter-fresh rosemary are combined perfectly with masculine, woody nuances of a base. Try it. I've heard it all. This is just superb. Must say it took some getting used to but I've come to enjoy it. That alone should get your attention. It's one of my favorite fragrances. Yes, it does not project much, but it is just gorgeus. Ive read the other reviews. The latest version tested today is pretty much right there with the original. This smells like the core of Roja's Creation E/Enigma, just without the cognac note. If I had to reduce my collection of fifty odd bottles down to just five mere bottles, this would be one that I kept. I said fougere because it has more notes than your traditional citrus-to-lavender-to-vetiver type basic cologne and it has a twist in it that makes the smell both unique and easily recognizable. For an older fragrance, still gets me compliments. A wonderful citrus fragrance that I truly enjoy! Always get compliments and never a negative reaction. I dont imagine many under the age of 35 would be drawn to Dior Eau Sauvage. This is just so beautifully balanced, I'm almost never not surprised by it. I see the first hot sun and I think of him. Huge burst of citrus to begin with, but like most have said. Finally got to smell this after curiosity for years. I tend to why away from fragrances that do not radiate beyond the skin, but this is a deliciously invigorating scent. I sprayed on more, on skin and clothing: same result--almost immediate disappearance. This was Steve McQueen's personal favourite, and I can see why. I've been wearing Eau Sauvage for a longer time that I'd care to admit, and this is definitely one of the 5 fragrances that I'd take with my to a desert island in the case of a zombie apocalypse, I like it that much. The nose behind this fragrance is Edmond Roudnitska. Beautiful, memorable and elegant and for me has the most character of all the classic aromatic citrus scents. When the citrus fade a bit the fragrance develops into something more woody. My favourite citrus scent and also just one of my all-time, most-loved scents with strong memory associations for me as I wore it a lot on my travels in the 90s. The new batch is like a tiny shadow of the past, it's so watered down it makes you mad you want to cry and smash the bottle on a wall. I won't buy again. I do spray mostly on clothes, but in comparison to other fragrances I apply the same way it performs well. Definitely a great smell but not something that you can wear on a night out. She looked like Jane Birkin. BUT! Every time I wear this I get wafts several hours into the wear. Purchased alongside a 1997 Fahrenheit, both sealed bottles and completely different fragrances. He sought simple comforts then and now. Henson's "Bog of Eternal Stench", comical but nightmarish. If perfumes compliment and enhance personal attributes through social perception via sensory interaction, Eau Sauvage will be an accessory to your gentlemanly aspirations. The Extreme and Cologne version do perform better, but the former doesn't have the airy freshness of the original, while the latter goes in a whole different direction. What can be said that hasn't been said? Its exactly as described, citrus, breezy, cool and aromatic. Every time I wear this, it puts me on a great nostalgic trip and makes me feel great. I see that I am far from the only customer complaining about this. Its beautiful, any time of the day, any season. Gorgeous looking bottle also. Go, pick it up, and listen. All in all: Dior's Eau Sauvage edt - can't recommend enough . An old school citrusy classic. A true Classic Dior old school lemon type fragrance thats liked by many but is more for the over 40 year olds these days. it has 1970's/1980's written all over it. Clean, crisp, uplifting with clean, addictive citrus notes. Shame on Dior ! I've never smelled the vintage so cannot compare, but this style of classical cologne-type frag is just not going to be super long lasting no matter what. Not overpowering, it's just right. Freshness of the juice plays a big role in this type of fragrance and buying a vintage bottle doesn't make a lot of sense. He emerged from those existential crises intact, albeit weary around the edges. I love this fragrance, but it's a 2 spray only cologne. One of the best fresh-herbal openings I've smelled. Dior Eau Sauvage this masterfully crafted fading beauty has earned its place in the fragrance market a long time ago, this fragrance is a polaroid of the traditional masculinity of its time, like the todays masculine fragrances are the polaroid of the masculinity we have today. just had come back to update my first review on how Im now a proud owner of 5 bottle of the vintage (brown box). It smells classy, expensive and masculine. At least in the reformulation. An absolute sophistication and I am purposefully omitting the adjective "vintage" because this scent hasn't aged and gives vibes of utter luxury and essence of freshness and class regardless of the year it was created. At the first sniff, I noticed that it was quite similar to the Ea Sauvage Extreme version. I was surprised by a few things: "Classic" is a word grossly overused in masculine perfumery to the extent that it has lost all meaning.
