I love the ease of use and small size. The Grado sound is unique, and the Grado Gold epitomises this sound. I dunno if this counts, but I just bought my wife a Technics SL-J92 linear tracker for her office. Nothing against the Ortofon 320, but 250 bucks??? The wider choice of higher quality needles is one main reason, why I prefer this family of AT-T4P/P-mounts to the other two - the other is, that the AT102P family belongs to "the wider AT120E family", so there also is a good choice of halfinch-mount AT and Signet bodies one can run the ATN102P family needles on. You can even stick an OM stylus on a 2M cartridge and it will fit and work fine, but look ugly. On the audio web forum I was on at the time, any time someone asked about buying a p-mount turntable, they mantra was "you'll be limited in cartridge selection." The Plastic Fantastic has arrived! You'll be startled by the improvement when upgrading a stylus, cartridge or system component. And still one step above the ATN122LP was the ATN132EP, sporting a rectangular-shanked nudie (not quite sure, whether that was a 0.2 x 0.1 mm or 0.14 x 0.07 mm, though) with sharp, true elliptical tip, once again on a tapered, anodised alu cantilever. Have a pmount Technics turntable that I like a lot and would be curious to upgrade the cart. An interesting, "love it or hate it" cartridge. I use the SL7 in the bedroom where auto shut off is an absolute necessity for me ! Other phono cartridges have planned obsolescence and require you to upgrade to a completely new cartridge for better sound quality. I got it after the open box was no longer available, and they offered me a new one for a fraction of the new price. The Grados are something else I'm considering. I have a Technics SL-J2 and finally settled on a Grado Green since they are some of the few that are still made. I.e., over here that needle is roundabout 50 Euro incl. 
It seems really bizarre to make p mount cartridge that doesnt meet p mount standards!

So, as you can see, AT alone offered several T4P/P-mount models that were quite a good bit higher-ranking in terms of technical quality - so calling the AT331LP one of the best T4P/P-mount carts would really be quite a bit of an exaggeration. It appears all of the higher quality P mounts have gone the way of the DoDo . The Technics 310MC is not just a great p-mount cartridge, but great compared to any cartridge. I liked the Ortofon 280E P-mount, but I finally decided that selection was not too good and sold my Technics SL-M2. Save any hifi search on your hifishark.com profile to easily repeat it and even have an optional mail I think the grado p mount has a pretty poor reputation in comparison to their standard mount too. Audio Technica also create a nice micro line. I reasoned that there would always be SL-1200s available, and bought the SL-M3. Conveniently, the styli for the standard versions of these cartridges can be placed in the P mount cartridges, so if you have any Ortofons or Grados lying around the stylus can be changed over without hassle. These are induced magnet moving iron cartridges, and I seem to favor them. Audio Technica cartridges are great cheap cartridges. P mount cartridges were a neat little invention that have a place in the market to this day due to the popularity of vintage turntables. - Recommended tracking force: 1.25 g (12.5 mN)

The SL-M3 is at home, and the SL-MA1 is in my office. There are a number of options available, and some will find the selection less daunting compared to the 1/2 mount cartridges. It is SOOO nice to be able to swap carts in 30 seconds and have it perfectly aligned no matter how much you've been drinking. This is opposed to standard (1/2 inch) mount cartridges which connect to the tonearm via for visible wires and are secured by two screws. My best copy of my favorite LP has a small flaw in one track that makes an annoying buzz with every other cartridge, but with the 310 it is barely noticeable. Shure and Stanton each have one P mount cartridge option available, though neither provides the flexibility that the Ortofon, Grado and Audio Technica cartridges provide. Just called since I hadn't heard anything.. To good to be true.. not in stock. - Tracking force: 1.25 - 1.75 g (12.5 - 17.50 mN)
LPGear offers a few compatible carts, though, and the seller of this particular table says hes installed a new stylus. I have a medical condition that has started to impair my vision. If you have a P mount system and a universal mount system, the P mount cartridges could be swapped between the two systems easily. Oh how weird. You must log in or register to reply here. As long as Grado keeps making p-mounts, I think cheap old vintage Technic's P-mount tables are some of the best made starter tables you can still find for under $100 (if you are patient). My setup sounds pretty good to me, which is all that matters really. Ortofon OMP-10 might be a good choice. Audio Technica provide a wonderful variety of P mount cartridges. Sony XL-MC3X (LOMC) in SH-4P plug in head shell, ADC XT-I (underweight RiverTone, long story), Pickering TL series (black) with DTL2 stylus.

Practically though, there is more availability and a wider variety of options with 1/2 mount cartridges so theres little reason to buy a P mount cartridge if you only have the one system. Audiotechnica and Grado are the only companies selling p-mount cartridges in the US; there are a few others that may still be available overseas. I decided to take that as a challenge, and started buying up p-mount cartridges, mostly through eBay. Ok, I've just spent a frustrating morning cruising the net in search of a high quality P mount cartridge for my Technics SL7 compact SLT Turntable. :) "ATN140LC" changed to "ATN142LP". The P mount system sought to eliminate this by presetting the tonearm tracking weight and antiskate at the factory and having the cartridges standardised to fit the specifications of the tonearm. It feels good to be able to listen to my albums again without having it cut out halfway through each side. Shure were on of themanufacturers of moving magnet cartridges for the latter half of the 20th century, and the Shure []. Looks like the McIntosh MP100, WhestTwo.2 and Sutherland 20/20 are good options in the $2k range.

The good news is that used cartridges are still available (it was included in with the very successful SL-10 turntable), but most will need to be retipped. All in the photo have a stylus and stylus guard so they are both safe to store and ready to use; some without a stylus guard are stored elsewhere along with the spare styli. - VTF 1.25g +- 0.25g with a cartridge+stylus weight of 6.00g. The great thing about P mount cartridges is that basically any cartridge will drop straight in to your tonearm, since that was what they were intended for in the first place. I don't hate the idea of not having to fiddle with alignment because it gets old after a while and carts like my Nagaoka MP-150 are a major pain to work with. Could I have gone with a U-Turn or Fluance? The ADC PSX series (also branded as the SER series) are also great. I have some other moving iron cartridges I quite like: Sonus, Empire, Pickering/Stanton. Since the OM series cartridges are the same body anyway, you could buy the base level OMP-10 and chuck in an OM-20 or OM-30 stylus. That's rather ridiculous, especially if one considers that Ortofon still officially offers the needle 320 for a very fair price. Curious if you tried the Grado? You are using an out of date browser. I also have the Zephyr from Hifi Heaven. Although theyre out of production you can still pretty easily pick up NOS of the ortofon OMP cartridges for P mount for ok money. It has been about a year-and-a-half since I added to the collection. 
P mount cartridges occasionally come with an adapter that makes them compatible with 1/2 mount tonearms, which makes them a universal cartridge. JavaScript is disabled.
