A color checker card is most idea for adding to the most 'flexible' exposure and most 'neutral'(as in not heavy-handed set in camera) colors applied in camera, along with the calibration reference point (shot of the card) so in POST all the range of gear and conditions that produced the clips have a more common place (a wider common space on the Venn diagram) to be matched up easiest possible. Without opening a can of worms, a color checker card isn't the typical tool for roughly a 'display-referred' process. Usefulness to get a good scene-referred standard known-calibration point is exceedingly helpful. Here you can see that the ColorChecker Videos black area on the right indicates pure black when its reflecting the dark environment, whereas the ColorChecker Passport Videos black area is not completely black, as its reflecting thesky and branches above. The white balance target is spot on between multiple cameras, and the black, 40IRE grey and white swatches for perfect exposure during capture, and contrast in post. It folds down very compactly, the grey side is an 18 percent reflectance target ( what all camera meters are calibrated to expose to ) which will help you achieve correct exposure almost every time, and the white side will give you a white balance target that can be used both when you are setting your camera before you shoot and in post when using one of your editor's white-balance tools. But is it enough to outclass the competition? Likewise, the larger chart doesn't have a hard shell case, and while its a little cheaper than the "passport", I worry about keeping it safe on a small crew set when you don't have quite enough hands and things sometimes get set down in stupid places. The dedicated grayscale target features larger white, 40 IRE gray and black patches to help with exposure of your mid-tones, as well as align the exposure and contrast of multiple cameras. Im using the ColorChecker Passport Video far more often during a video shoot than I ever did with the ColorChecker Passport with stills. This is because the black swatch is a glossy black, in an attempt to eliminate as much contamination from the material surface of the swatch itself from throwing your results. This, obviously, means that it will reflect at least some light sources. Sometimes "getting it right in camera" where so many tweeks were done 'in camera' causes the colorist to pull his hair out because the content doesn't give room for the footage to be matched with other content,especially linear light SFX. I think some of the color checkers, including those for video, have plug ins for software that does automatic mapping. 
Unfortunately, it was very inconsistent in its results, and trying to match footage from different cameras was often still a bit of a nightmare. I take a moment and check where the neutrals are lying, the fleshtones and the colors.

Youve really no idea where any of the colours are actually supposed to sit on the vectorscope which means that beyond basic white balancing, there isnt much you can do with it. 
Correcting color in post requires a calibrated monitor; has your computer monitor been calibrated to Rec. 
So unless youre using a camera capable of shooting raw video, youre going to want to get this right. Color Checker Classic gets ok results, but if I get one designed for video would I get better more accurate results? On the other side, along with the white balance target, the CCPV also offers a black & white focus target, which can be handy if youre having to deal with low contrast subjects, or shooting a very flat colour profile that makes it difficult to focus. Part of me likes the idea of the passport because its small and in a plastic case, so I can just toss it in the camera bag with the rest of the gear, and I can get it bundled with the i1 (and it is well beyond time to calibrate my monitor - my computer took an update the other day and did something to the GPU and now nothing looks the way it did before) But I'm also concerned about the size, is it at all useful on anything wider than a medium shot? AfterI first got hold of aColorChecker Passport a few years ago, I instantly became a fan. Its made things far more accurate and consistent than the guesswork that was previously involved when attempting to match different clips or shots from multiple cameras, while also letting me spend less time at the computer. The standard size would be better for video, in my opinion. 
I find that's how most people are using their color charts, as an eye reference or an automated reference to get from LOG to Rec709. With your subject in the frame, simply have themhold up the ColorChecker Passport Video. High resolution, weather-sealed bodies and wide dynamic range are all important. None of these will give you perfect one-click-matching! It lacksthe standard chromatic colours used with thevectorscope in software such as Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. Its small enoughto slip into a bag or your pocket to take out with you on location, but its a double edged sword. Well, it seems its been improved slightly in the latest.

Hi Everyone, I'm moving pretty decisively into video production from still photography, but my video post-processing skills are still pretty rudimentary. The larger chip chart is actually fairly "rugged" -- it's made of decently tough plastic (which is I guess why it costs $80-something dollars?) Close in on it, if possible, and capturea few seconds under the same light in which youll be shooting your footage, and you have your reference footage. Which one will depend entirely on your needs and circumstances, but definitely get one of them.
