This sounds really cool when you go into a solo, and with chordsI honestly have no way to describe it! The fingerboard is rosewood and the frets are jumbo stainless steel. Since both of these produce totally different sounds, we will talk about them separately. I was lucky to play these models a few times, and I think that Fender had some serious competition from Yamaha. Once recorded an Eddie Kramer Tape Delay preset was applied. The top is curved, so it took a little while to get the output balance good between the pickups as the guitar has one volume and one tone control. Now, for the first time since the Revstar series was initially debuted, the 2022 Revstar lines Element and Standard tiers are available in left-handed versions, in both black and Swift Blue finishes. From first glance this looks just like the Element, and it is totally unassuming. The Gift of Music Foundation accepts instruments of any kind, then directs funds generated from the proceeds of donated instrument sales to fund supplemental programs for families that cant afford instrument rentals. For the second amp, I chose something completely different and used a Fender Blues Jr. Comes with a gig bag. That is, until I started playing. Comes with a gig bag. I play a lot, so I restring every couple of weeks, and even more if I am recording. Rolling the guitar volume up to ten produces that delicious VOX overdriven tone. I always use a strap and the guitar is comfortable to play sitting down and standing. We will go over the features and specs of both variants of the Yamaha Revstar Standard models, and talk about the differences between both. Its like we have awoken a sleeping giant that always had the potential to be something greater. The factory supplies Elixir Nanoweb 10s as the shipping strings. The guitar is light, has incredible acoustic resonance and is readily playable. Like the humbucker version, these pickups definitely punch. Yamaha may not be a trendy name in guitars but it is very hard to beat their quality and value for the dollar. I think the Yamaha Revstar Standard could be a great replacement for the expensive axe that you probably play at bar gigs. Just listen to one of their acoustic pianos and you will understand. Front 242: Most-used Synths, Drum Machines and Sounds, Yamaha Revstar inspired by the cafe racer motorbbike style: Yamaha, Yamaha Revstar Professional construction: Yamaha. Necks from guitars costing three times this could do with this kind of build quality, not naming names. There are 22 frets on the neck and the scale length is 24 3/4 inches. Comes with a gig bag. Every note in a big chord rings out, and I even got it to chug a little with the Katana. This next sample is a simple chord riff sequence with the guitar turned up full, which pushed the VOX into a pleasant overdrive recorded into Studio One using an AKG condenser microphone run into an Apollo Solo interface. Position one is bridge, three is both, five is neck. You have 4 different color options to choose from, and they retain some of the same color schemes of the Element Series, but thats where the comparison ends. The cream binding is also on point with both models, and the binding is one of the aesthetics that set this model apart from the Element Series. This is why I recorded with my expensive guitars, and played shows with budget ones. Hey neighbours! I was not ready to be taken aback by such a cheap guitar. This means, as a gigging guitar, you will have to spend less time adjusting the neck for setups. The body has a maple cap over the chambered body of mahogany. Yamaha Revstar Standard RSS02T: I will be 100% honest with you here, I am not usually a fan of P90s and Im definitely not a fan of the Trapeze style bridge on this model. Now, Yamaha has a whole new lineup of Revstar guitars for 2022, available in three tiers. It has ample padding, a headstock rest, and plenty of pockets. A good P90 is the best of all worlds in my opinion, and the range of tones from the five way switch gives you lots of options. The Revstar range has landed: Yamaha launch a huge range of guitars, New Yamaha Revstar guitar line to be released next week, Summer NAMM 2017: Yamaha celebrates 40 years of its BB bass range. The guitars tone pot is a push pull. Try it yourself, you may think its a great thing. But these are definitely a step up in sonic variety. Call (773) 525-7773 or Chat Today! Both models that I played weighed in at about 8.5lbs. The 5 way switch here is more like a traditional Strat. The body has a high gloss polyurethane finish (Yay! While I was connected to the amp through the room pedal board, I had everything off. The frets are in the medium category as far as the way they feel to me, and I couldnt find the actual fret size mentioned in the paperwork. The bridge pickup is extra punchy as well, and with a little AC/DC style crunch dialed in it really came to life. Good to see the old-school Industrial fans in the comments! How do they stack up to the Element Series? These are bright and mid-focused pickups that I would assume are name brand, but apparently Yamaha tried out over 100 pickups before deciding on these! The bridge pickup may sound dialed back, but the neck pickup is where the Focus really shines, giving you that buttery lead tone. The RSS02T is amazing for blues/jazz and rivals other brands that feature dual P90s at twice the cost. The Yamaha Revstar Standard RSS20: This is the same guitar as the Element model, with a very classic dual humbucker design and a standard TOM tailpiece that you would expect on this sort of guitar. The EQ Focus is perfect for solos, since it does boost the signal a bit while it dials out some top end. When you pull the switch, it dials out a lot of the treble, while boosting the lower midrange, and the bass. Now that Yamaha and Line 6 are the same company, I think we will continue to see some different marketing tactics and some extraordinary guitar designs. The Maple top also adds a different dimension when it comes to resonance. Additional appointments to the Revstar Standard RSS20 include a gloss body finish, satin neck finish and rosewood fingerboard with 22 stainless steel frets. It is just a few milliseconds off, and not even something you can hear. I dont particularly like the Trapeze bridge on these. For a better experience on Gearnews, we recommend JavaScript to be enabled. The P90 pickups are definitely the first thing to note, as well as the Trapeze style bridge that you usually see on Epiphone guitars and other classic electric guitars from the 1940s and 50s. This is a two channel amp with no reverb and selectable output level for 15 or 30 watts. These features give you a totally different vibe: For both guitars, I used two different amps while testing these models. Is it worth the extra money, or is the Revstar Element a better buy? Become a CME VIP and get the latest news on gear, giveaways, and deals FIRST! But the electric guitar models always seemed to fall flat, even though they are really well made guitars. Going into this review, I really didnt think I would be any more impressed with the Yamaha Revstar Standard, than I was with the Element. The gig bag is a very nice addition, and this is not just some thin, useless gig bag. The features for the Yamaha Revstar Standard are much better than the Element: Like I said, these can be deceptively alike at first glance, but the Yamaha Revstar Standard RSS02T has a few different tricks up its sleeve that make it much different than the RSS20. I know how to dial in tones really well on both amps, and they were available at our affiliate site where I test gear for reviews. I would love to have each in the studio as well! Im going to try really hard not to gush too much, but the quality of both models is just insane. But the Standard Series also has a maple top, and I think this adds a little more to the resonance, especially strumming it acoustically. But the 5 way switch is where this assumption changes. These are well crafted, and they offer features that I have honestly never seen on another guitar unless it was customized. This 5 way works more like a Stratocaster, with the in between positions being out of phase options. Once I got this done, a quick intonation check and we were good. This first audio sample is a G chord in all five switch positions. This is usually a hard question to answer when it comes to two models that are similar, but with the Yamaha Revstar Standard models, it has never been more clear which one belongs where. In the top tier of the new 2022 lineup, Revstar Professional guitars receive Yamahas Initial Response Acceleration (I.R.A.) This is the biggest I have ever heard single coil pickups sound, and theres only a moderate amount of 60-cycle hum. So lets take a look at the features first, and then discuss the more intricate details of each model. The large unique looking tailpiece and tune-o-matic style bridge are well finished and appear to be quality parts, not cheap stamped pieces. Both have some very unique sounds to offer, and I cant imagine just having one, since I have played both now! The P90 pickups came with cream covers and sound like a P90 should, or at least they do now. I could have gotten a humbucker model but I am glad I got the version with the P90s. Really, the only thing that is different is the pickups and bridge configuration, but depending on what kind of music you play, one may be vastly better than the other for your style. I think Yamaha is really onto something with the new Revstar guitars. Something else that is missing for me is a trem system. The neck is a three piece mahogany unit with two carbon reinforcing rods. The frets were all nice and level and the bound neck had no sharp points. Things get darker and thicker. For some reason, Yamaha always focused its energy on the acoustic lineup, and these have been popular with the pros. If you play rock or anything with a lot of distortion, I think the dual humbucker model is going to be more your speed. With any article, there's only so much space available and in an article about Front 242, we obviously had to concentrate on 242. To be fair, I only own 6 guitarsI mean 7wait. A tone machine! For me I have to work on acquiring a taste for it. The neck still feels like a slightly fatter Stratocaster to me, but it is super comfortable. Other than that one gripe, these guitars are pretty much flawless in build quality. So what do I conclude from this test? For $800, you very rarely see features like stainless frets and neck through construction. Join our mailing list for prime access to new gear, great giveaways, and the best deals! I was very impressed with the bag that the Yamaha Revstar Standard comes with. Id definitely take it over any of the entry level Gibsons that cost much more and whose build quality is sadly often questionable.
